Doesn't look nearly as cool as the bronze Linkert air horn, but I feel better knowing that the intake air is filtered, and it seems to run fine with it on. I just tweaked the idle mixture a bit. I rode the '38U over to Burien and back on the freeway, and it ran great.
I did some research, and figured out that there is no top adjuster that is needed with the front brake handle (see previous post). I also figured out that the cable that was on the bike would work with Mike's handle after all. There was an extra ferrule on the existing handle, and after I removed it, the cable fit the new handle perfectly. I am pretty sure it stops at least 10% shorter with the new handle, and I think there's 4 -5 mph more on the top end too... ;<) Thanks again, Bitmonkey!!! It's totally cool!

This was also the perfect opportunity to mount the new brake adjuster Fuzzy ordered for me, so I did that too.

Finally, from looking at the 45", I saw what the brake cable retaining clip on the front fork was supposed to look like, so I quickly fabricated one, and did the stovetop parkerizing. I think it came out pretty cool, but my family doesn't seem to share my excitement...

All in all, a great day. We FINALLY got some respite from the rain.
Cool post. Glad you were able to get it all set up.
ReplyDeleteThe cable retainer looks great. My bike is supposed to have a similar cable retainer on the front fork. I'd really like to see a stock one. Fricken one year parts. Gotta buy a '68 parts book.
